compliment or insult?

Last night, we were sitting in a someone’s room, and my friend comes in. My bag was sitting on a desk where he was leaning up against. After a while, he asks me, “Is this your purse?” and I said, “Yeah, how did you know?” and he said, “Because you’re the type of girl who’d have a bright red purse.”

I’m completely taking that as a compliment.
